Early 1900s terracotta Pot used in the Central Florida to collect resin from pine trees, specially longleaf and loblolly pine.
To harvest it they would cut V-shaped notches in the pine bark and then put these little clay pots underneath them to catch the pine resin.
The Herty Turpentine cup was produced by the Herty Turpentine Cup Company in Florida in 1909.
They have some residue of pine resin adding a great patina and smell. Some have more resin than others, also, they don't have a hole on the bottom.
We found these pots in a farm along the Saint Johns River in Florida.
All our pots are in original condition showing signs of normal use, and some imperfections.
You will receive the pot in the photo. Item #58
